friGO

Meet friGO, a grocery organizing app. friGO helps users keep track of what is (and isn’t!) in the fridge or pantry, by synchronizing household food inventories with household grocery lists. Never forget about that bag of salad greens again — with the app’s helpful reminders, users can reduce their household food waste, all while eating fresher foods and saving money.

The project

The goal of this project was to create a mobile app design and prototype for the friGO app, that keeps the user in mind using cutting edge features (such as AI) to make their lives easier. friGO is aimed at busy people, especially those in small households, who like to cook and are concerned about food waste.

My process

friGO’s creation took a problem-centred approach. I knew I wanted to create an app to address the issue of household food waste, something that I encounter in my own household.

Two personas. The first is named Andy Battenberg-Cooke and the second is named Sunita Thakurii.

To begin

I started by using the app to find out more about its features and issues. By compiling a list of the issues with the original app I was able to find solutions to each these problems. I developed personas to better understand the app's audience and address their needs.

User Flow

I then got more specific on the features of the app and mapped out a site map and user flow.

Wireframes

Next, I created low- and high-res wireframes. These were tested with a focus group, which sparked some improvements to the structure and layout. Then, a style guide was created, followed by the Figma prototype.

Final product

While the process was very smooth, when designing an app it is important to take lots of time to make sure that every part is right. For friGO, I made multiple concepts for layout, which changed based on user feedback, and experimented a lot with the look of the app.
